Data Deletion Request
At Roam, we respect your privacy and your right to control your personal data. This page explains how you can delete your account and what happens to your data when you do.
When you delete your account, most of your personal data is immediately and permanently removed from our systems. However, some information may be retained as explained below.
How to Delete Your Account
To delete your account and associated data, please follow these steps in the Roam app:
- Open the Roam app on your device
- Tap on the "Me" tab in the bottom navigation
- Select "Manage Account" from your profile settings
- Tap on "Delete Account" at the bottom of the screen
- Follow the confirmation steps to permanently delete your account

What Happens When You Delete Your Account
Data That Is Immediately Deleted
The following data is permanently deleted from our systems immediately upon account deletion:

Personal Profile | Your name, email, profile photo, bio, and other account details |
Activities | All tracked routes, activities, and associated metadata |
Photos & Videos | All media you've uploaded to the platform |
Social Connections | Friends, followers, and following relationships |
Comments & Likes | All comments you've made and content you've liked |
Messages | All direct messages and conversations |
Device Information | Device identifiers, push tokens, and app settings |
Data That May Be Retained
Some information may be retained for specific purposes:
Data Type | Retention Period & Reason |

System Logs | Retained for up to 30 days for security, debugging, and analytics purposes |
Public Trail Contributions | Permanently retained but anonymized (contributions to public trail database) |
Backups | May remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before being permanently deleted |
Legal Compliance Data | Information required for legal, regulatory, tax, or accounting purposes may be retained as required by law |
Note: Any contribution to public resources, such as trail edits or additions to the public trail database, will be retained but dissociated from your personal information.
Additional Information
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Once your account is deleted, you will lose access to all of your content and data, and your username will no longer be associated with your previously posted content.

Instead of deleting your account, you can temporarily disable it by selecting "Disable Account" in your account settings. This will hide your profile and content from other users while preserving your data for when you choose to return.
