Description

Saddle Up Part Two (#16A) is an exciting off-road trail nestled in the Tillamook State Forest. Get ready for an adventure right from the start, as the trail greets you with a 'gatekeeper' jumble of boulders that will test your vehicle and line-picking skills. Once past this initial challenge, you'll enjoy a scenic drive on a dirt track that winds its way down through a young fir forest with several switchbacks. But the rocks aren't done with you yet! Another boulder field marks the end of this first section. The trail then continues, looping around a small hill that's a known camping spot for hunters. Saddle Up Part Two finishes by connecting to a gravel road, making it a perfect spot to continue exploring if you're heading towards the Dog Leg trail. This route offers a great mix of rocky obstacles and pleasant forest driving for 4x4 enthusiasts.

Difficulty

This trail will definitely keep you on your toes with two main rocky sections. The first is a significant 'gatekeeper' boulder field right at the trail's entrance – you'll need to choose your path carefully here. Later on, a second boulder field presents another fun challenge. The parts of the trail between these rocky bits are mostly dirt tracks with some twists and turns (switchbacks). Because of the boulders, this trail is best for 4x4 vehicles with good ground clearance. If your vehicle is stock, be extra cautious to avoid scraping the undercarriage. Using your vehicle's low-range gears can help you crawl slowly and steadily over the rocks.
